Hello all. I’m new, so let me take a second to introduce myself – my name is Ishmael Johnson and this here is the very first edition of the weekly “Good Job, Good Effort” column. Every Saturday, I’ll be breaking down the five worst “COME ON, MAN” moments of the week. But of course, we here at the Bureau don’t get any pleasure from this. Like they say, “we’re not mad, we’re just disappointed”. We try to motivate, so of course we looked to the master for inspiration.
Be sure to vote for your pick. There’s a poll at the bottom. We’ll announce the winner in next week’s edition.
1. The Phoenix Suns
After having a 17 point lead in the second half over the Clippers Wednesday night, the Suns decided they wanted to keep the race for the 7th and 8th seeds more interesting by letting the Clippers claw back and eventually win 112-108…at home. I mean they couldn’t let Memphis and Dallas get too far behind, right?
2. Junior Lake
Baseball season means it’s time to remind everyone that there are people who have gone on to live full and healthy lives and not witness one Chicago Cubs World Series victory. Junior Lake is already trying to avoid association to the franchise by refusing to wear the correct uniform. But least it’s spelled right, right Washington?
3. Cleanthony Early
There are many lessons to be learned here. This dunk was the equivalent of me during my senior prom date finding process; I’d leap for the stars, crash, burn, possibly cry – I can’t remember – and then end up twiddling my thumbs…wait what I was I talking about? Oh right, know your league Early.
4. Mark Texiera
I have to sit and pause because this may be the only “Good Job, Good Effort” that involves the Houston Astros that isn’t about the Houston Astros. The gaff being committed by a Yankee just makes things better because who doesn’t like to laugh at the evil empire?
5. Shoni Schimmel
I’m a very jaded person so this won’t happen often, but this video’s actually meant to be legitimate praise. Schimmel’s performance in the final minute is something out of a video game hitting three three-pointers in 00:48 seconds unfortunately in the Cardinals’ loss to the Lady Terps. Good job, good effort Shoni, really.
